Full house rewiring
A full rewire replaces the existing wiring and accessories throughout a property. Whether you're renovating an older home, extending, or upgrading an outdated installation, we'll plan it around your layout and future needs. Depending on your requirements, it can include:
- New lighting circuits & switches
- Additional sockets & power circuits
- Kitchen appliance supplies
- Bathroom electrical installations
- Smoke & heat alarm circuits
- A new consumer unit
- Outdoor electrical supplies
- Inspection, testing & certification
Partial rewiring
Not every property needs a complete rewire. A partial rewire may suit kitchen renovations, bathroom alterations, extensions, loft conversions or replacing sections of outdated wiring. We assess the existing installation first to make sure it's suitable for the proposed work.
Rewiring occupied & empty homes
Empty properties can usually be rewired more efficiently, with easier access to floors, ceilings and walls.
Occupied homes need more planning to manage disruption, protect belongings and keep essential areas usable where practical. Some temporary loss of power should be expected. We'll talk through methods, disruption and arrangements before work begins.
In some properties, particularly rentals and commercial premises, surface wiring and trunking can be a practical alternative that reduces chasing walls and lifting floors.
Renovations & extensions
Planning a kitchen extension, loft conversion or full renovation? We work alongside homeowners and other trades to plan socket and switch positions, lighting layouts and LED downlights, appliance circuits, bathroom fans, outdoor power, EV charger provision, data cabling and smart home equipment. Planning early avoids costly changes later.
Does your house need rewiring?
Age alone doesn't mean a rewire is needed. An inspection is advisable if you notice damaged wiring, repeated faults, signs of overheating, not enough circuits for how you live, or earlier alterations of uncertain quality. An EICR is the best way to decide what's actually necessary.
Old rubber (VIR) wiring or "green goo"? We don't extend or alter deteriorated VIR wiring or affected circuits. Read our guide to older wiring.
How much does a rewire cost?
Cost depends on property size, the number of sockets, switches and lighting points, whether it's occupied, access under floors and above ceilings, wall construction, consumer unit requirements and making-good. Every property is different, so we quote based on your proposed installation and site conditions.
Rewiring questions
Can you rewire a house while we're living in it?
Yes. It generally needs more planning and may take longer than an empty house. Supplies may be temporarily disconnected while circuits are replaced and tested, and furniture may need moving for access. We plan the work to minimise disruption and keep essential supplies on where possible.
How much does a house rewire cost?
It depends on size, layout, construction and the number of electrical points, plus whether the property is occupied and the extent of making-good. We provide an individual quotation based on your property rather than a one-size-fits-all price.
