Home EV charger installation
Whether you've just bought an electric vehicle or are planning the switch, a dedicated home charger means convenient charging without relying on public points. We install chargers for properties with off-street parking, including driveways, garages and carports.
We assess your existing installation, discuss your charging needs and recommend a solution based on your property and available supply. A typical installation may include:
- A dedicated circuit for the charger
- Suitable circuit protection
- Assessment of the existing supply
- Appropriate cable routing
- Charger mounting & connection
- Inspection, testing & certification
- Setup & commissioning
7kW home chargers
A 7kW-class charger is a common choice for homes with a suitable single-phase supply and charges significantly faster than a standard domestic socket. Actual speeds depend on the vehicle, charger, supply and any load-management settings.
Smart charging
Many modern chargers offer scheduled and off-peak charging, app monitoring, energy usage tracking, dynamic load management and integration with compatible solar PV. As a BPEC-trained solar PV installer as well, Lewis can talk you through what works with your setup.
Garages, carports & detached parking
Where the charger is away from the house, the installation may need an underground or armoured (SWA) cable or another suitable wiring method. We assess the cable route and conditions before quoting.
Can my existing consumer unit support an EV charger?
Not every property needs a new consumer unit. But the existing installation must be assessed to confirm it can safely take the extra load and provide the required protection. Sometimes additional protective equipment, a separate enclosure or alterations are needed. Where it makes sense, we can combine the job with a consumer unit upgrade.
How much does EV charger installation cost?
It depends on the charger model, distance from the supply, cable route and method, your existing consumer unit and protection, available supply capacity and any groundworks. We quote based on your proposed installation. Customer-supplied chargers can also be discussed, subject to compatibility.
EV charging questions
Can I install an EV charger with my existing fuse box?
In many cases, yes. It depends on the condition of the installation, available supply capacity and the suitability of existing protection. An electrician should assess the supply, earthing and existing demand first. A full consumer unit replacement isn't automatically necessary.
Do you install chargers in garages and carports?
Yes. Where the charging point is away from the main property, we may use underground or armoured cable or another suitable method, and assess the route before quoting.
